Technology Use Consent

Cedars Christian School continues to incorporate technology into the learning experiences of our students. As the current COVID-19 situation unfolds, classroom teachers will be asking students to access various digital tools that will facilitate students’ learning and engagement. We encourage reflective dialogue with students, parents, and staff around the use and role of technology. We value the freedom to create and responsibly use technology, but recognize its power to shape us as well. Online access and digital experience is balanced with the practice of experiential learning in our work with students.

With the continuity of learning goals in mind, staff will continue to engage students in meaningful learning experiences. All Cedars’ students (Grade 3 to high school) have been issued G-Suite (Google) for Education accounts that will allow them to access learning material and activities that their classroom teachers provide. This includes email communication (Grades 5-12 only), collaboration tools, calendars and class meeting capabilities. These accounts are managed by the school and are not private.

In addition to the tools available through Google, teachers may choose other online learning platforms to engage with students and parents while learning takes place at home. These tools may include ClassDojo (Grades K-2), Zoom, Weebly and other educational software. While using these tools, students may be asked to provide personal information such as name, pictures of projects and activities they’ve completed and other identifiable information.

Under BC’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), “An organization must protect personal information in its custody or under its control by making reasonable security arrangements to prevent unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure, copying, modification or disposal or similar risks.” Cedars staff will strive to remain educated on digital best practice to ensure adherence to PIPA regulation and the protection of all student information. While no internet-based experience can ever be 100% risk-free, Cedars is committed to taking every reasonable measure to manage expected risks.

Use of these tools for at-home learning will follow the school’s Acceptable Use Policy ( and should be reviewed with students prior to engaging in online activities. Use of these tools can be suspended at any time by Cedars staff or parents if privileges are not used in accordance with the Acceptable Use Policy. Below you will find consent questions by which you provide permission for each of your children to have access to these resources. We hope that you will see the value in providing these tools for your son/daughter.
