Successful Senior Girls Zones This Past Weekend!
This past weekend Cedars hosted 5 other teams from our North Central Zone for the ‘A’ Girls Championship and we were treated to some great basketball. In their first game, Cedars defeated Hudson’s Hope 75-12 in front of a lively Cedars crowd, then faced #2 Northside in the next round only to lose 56-50. They then played Acwsalcta Thunder from Bella Coola and were down 20-7 at halftime. However, the Eagles stormed back in the 3rd quarter to take a 33-28 lead. Then “the well ran dry” and they were only able to score 4 points in the 4th quarter and lost 45-37 which eliminated them from a chance at the finals and a trip to provincials. They finished the tournament with another victory over Hudson’s Hope 77-27 to finish 5th overall.
The gold medal game saw undefeated Northside down Chetwynd 58-35 to win their third consecutive zone title. However, both teams advanced to Provincials in Nanaimo March 2-4. Cedars’ players Colby Konig and Amy Larson were selected as second and first all-stars respectively while Sarah Faith Gill from Northside was the undisputed tournament MVP!
A BIG THANK YOU to coaches Nolan Hanson, Jordan Johnson, and Zach Wagner, plus Manager Kyla Bailie for all your work in reviving senior girls’ basketball at Cedars! And as the saying goes, “Wait until next year!”; we’ll be back stronger than ever to once again compete for the North Central Zone title!
