Seeking Community Members for our School-based Accessibility Team
At Cedars Christian School, we recognize the importance of accessibility not only for those with disabilities but also for the benefit of the entire school community – providing a learning and working environment that supports all students, staff, and the larger school community.
The Accessible British Columbia Regulation, under the Accessible British Columbia Act, came into effect on September 1, 2022. The goal of the Act is to improve opportunities for people with disabilities and involve them in identifying, removing, and preventing barriers to their full participation in the life of the province.

Accessibility Legislation Plain Language Summary
Cedars is a member school of the Society of Christian Schools in BC (SCSBC). They have set up a “district” Accessibility Committee, but we are establishing a school-based Accessibility Team to support the work of this Committee. Team members will meet quarterly to review the SCSBC Accessibility Plan (currently in draft), school-based initiatives, and accessibility report submissions.
We are looking for 2-3 community members to join a group of staff members and administrators on our school-based Accessibility Team! If you are interested, please send an email to accessibility@cedars.bc.ca stating your interest in being part of this work and any experience you have with disabilities and/or supporting persons with disabilities. We are endeavoring to establish a Team with diverse perspectives and cultural backgrounds – including Indigenous voices.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact our Principal, Shane Nelson or submit them in writing to our Accessibility Team at accessibility@cedars.bc.ca.
Check out more information regarding accessibility at Cedars and/or to report accessibility challenges on our school’s Accessibility Page.
