First, the team would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the community for their generous and gracious giving at the Elementary Christmas concert to help with the project at Jericho Ministries. We are humbled and so grateful to have received approximately $3000 from the offering and $2000 from others within the community who heard about our mission. Thank you! We feel incredibly blessed and hope to share how their donations are helping and will help the ministry and the team as they go on this mission.
Second, Betsy Hake, the leader at Jericho Ministries, as well as Elvia Forgas, the leader at the children’s home outside Tegucigalpa, have sent a list of items that will help out their children greatly. Here are some of the items that we are looking to take with us and that you can donate:
- new school supplies
- socks and underwear (children and teenager sizes)
- white polo shirts (all sizes)
- bandaids and antibiotic creams
We will be leaving room in our suitcases to take these items, but if you have a heart to provide for some of these things, you can also donate a sum of money towards that and we can buy some of these items while we’re in Honduras, too!
Third, the famous Honduras Nickel Drive is coming! It will begin on Monday, January 14th and run two weeks until January 25th. So save up your change to help your class win the challenge and help out the kids at Jericho! Further details to come.
The team is still looking for further fundraising opportunities. If you have ideas or opportunities for us, please contact Krystal Rempel at email@example.com or call me at the school.
Thank you for your help with this!
Sincerely, Mrs. Rempel, Mr. Braam, Abby W, Lindsay H, and Katriel H.
Over Christmas, we received the riparian environmental report. Items of note:
- Very generous and timely service by local professionals (EDI Environmental Dynamics Inc.)
- An “OK” to move the excavated soil from building site over to new field site, which eliminates the need for hauling soil away from property
- Open invitation from EDI, and strong interest from classroom teachers to partner on increasing the vegetation on our river bank. This interaction is another indication of favour in the broader community.
Thanks for all the prayers and support!

Looking for one or two coaches for grade 6/7 girls basketball team. At least one practice/week (3:00-4:30 at Cedars) and at least one game/week at 3:00 or 4:00. If interested, contact our Athletic Director, Steve Wilson (firstname.lastname@example.org)
We are excited to announce that, on Monday night, our society voted to approve moving forward with a $3.5 million building project to begin as early as Spring 2019! Following an update and good discussion, the society gave the Board a strong mandate – voting 98% in favor of the proposed plan.
Let us continue to pray for the Spirit’s leading of our Board, committees, and school leadership team as they move forward with the next steps. Stay tuned for more information about the project and ways to get involved. Our Building and Capital Campaign Committees will be providing updates through monthly Shake features and face-to-face town hall meetings. The first town hall meeting of the new year will be on Monday, January 21st at 7pm – with subsequent meetings typically taking place on the third Monday of each month.
Prayerfully consider ways that God is calling you to be involved. If you have not completed the survey we sent out last week, please take a few minutes to do so this week. Thank you to the close to 40 community members who have done so already! If you are interested in year-end giving, there are a couple of ways that you can do this through at the office (Main or Business) or our online payment page, including lump sum gifts and monthly and pre-authorized payments. At this point, we have not “branded” our Capital Campaign (feedback welcome!), but if you wish to target donations to the new building project, you can make this clear in your payment details.
May our Father continue to be glorified in the process, and the fruit of this endeavor.
