This past weekend saw four of our high school volleyball teams participating in District or Zone Championships and all represented Cedars well.

Our Junior Girls teams played in the Junior B Districts up at Kelly Road with mixed results. Cedars Grey, coached by Mrs. Karpenko, finished 3rd in their pool and 6th overall, with Ava Batarseh selected as their team MVP. Our other junior girls team, Cedars Blue, was coached by Mrs. Rempel and Mrs. Wilson and they finished second in their pool. As a result they competed for the bronze medal and in a hard fought match lost in 3 sets to College Heights. Jenevieve Wilson was selected by the tournament director as the team’s MVP! All in all a good season for both teams and a hearty thank you to the coaches for their time and energy!

Next the Junior Boys played incredibly well at their Zones Championships held at Duchess Park. They played themselves into the gold medal match, but came up short against the talented host team. However, as silver medalists they do qualify for Provincials on November 22,23. Coaches Frank Crosina and Jeff Pudlas are very proud of the boys not only in their results, but also in the passion and character they showed as they played.

Finally, Cedars hosted the Senior “A” Boys Zones at CNC and once again our boys came away with the gold medal! They were undefeated throughout the tournament, not losing a single set. Lucas Crosina and Evan Tiefensee were selected as All-stars while Josh Leboe was chosen as the Tournament MVP. Well done boys and coaches Mr. Rempel and Mr. Crosina! Now it’s off to Provincials November 21-23 where they go in as the 8th ranked “A” team in the province.

But that’s not all…
This weekend the Senior Girls play host to the North Central “A” Zones at CNC. They are ranked #1 of the 10 teams in our zone and their first two matches are 3:50 Friday versus rival #2 Fort St. James then 9:10 AM Saturday against #3 Northside. Should be a great weekend of volleyball and it could be even more exciting if we all came out to cheer the girls to another Zone championship!
