Each autumn, our Grades 4 and 7 students participate in writing their Foundation Skills Assessment. This is something that is done within class time and contains both paper and online assessment materials in the areas of both literacy and numeracy. Please see this pamphlet for more information.

We value these assessments as they provide the opportunity for students to experience questions and formats that are both similar and different to what they come across in class. They also help us as a school to use this as a snapshot of how our children are doing (individually and as a whole) to help inform future growth and educational decisions.

Grades 4 and 7 teachers will begin familiarizing students with practice examples and questions in October with the assessments being administered early November. We find these to be a good challenge for students and we ensure that our students give their best effort without stress and pressure.

Your child’s results on these assessments will be shared with you when we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care, usually in time for the Learning Update sent home in November.
