First Annual Alumni Basketball Games a Success!
This past Saturday Cedars hosted our first annual Alumni Basketball Games in our new gym and it was well received by all who were there!
While we were a little short in alumni women players, our Senior Girls took on our Staff and the lone alumnus able to play, Taylor Orton (Rowland) in a very spirited contest. The girls held their own but did not have an answer for such sharpshooters as Nolan Hanson, Jeff Ludditt, Caleb Wilson (filling in for dad Steve Wilson who was officiating) and Frank Crosina, who was sporting some throwback hair in honour of the occasion! The real workhouses were Leah Paulsen and Taylor Orton who did not take a rest during the entire game! Players of the game were Gabby Wagner and Taylor Orton. Hopefully more alumni will be able to play next year!
The Boys’ game was a different story. We had 15 alumni show up and they proceeded to show our Senior Boys team that they still had it! Ranging from grads as far back as 1993 grad Curtis Taylor (who sat out to allow the “boys” to play) right up to 2022, the alumni took some time to assert themselves but began to pull away in the third quarter. Led by the three-point shooting of Player of the Game Ben Wolitski, the Alumni team won 84-56! Player of the Game for Cedars was Liam Tiefensee. There were multiple brother battles with Lucas (2020) and Mitch (2022) taking on brother Ryan Crosina, Jake Doerksen (2022) versus Kale, Jakob Oliver (2022) versus Jonah, and Karl (2020) and Tony (2022) Kibonge teaming up for the alumni. It was a great game to watch and the guys were keen to keep it going in the years ahead.
