This past weekend, the Cedars High School Cross-country Team travelled to Vanderhoof to race in the North Central Zone Championships. The sunny, but cool, day was perfect for racing and our runners did quite well.
Max Whitehouse narrowly missed out on the Junior Boys Individual gold medal, finishing in second with a time of 15:02, a scant 12 seconds behind the winner. As a result of his placing Max qualified for provincials in two weeks!
Our grade 8 girls did well for their first zones meet, shaving 1-3 minutes off their personal best times. They finished in the following order: Madelyne Erbacher (8th), Madeline Whitehouse (9th), Emma Ward (11th) and Elizabeth Hillhouse (12th). And Mackenzie Friesen finished 7th in the Junior Girls category.
Finally Madelyne, Madeline, Emma and Mackenzie combined as a team to bring home third place in the Junior Girls Team category.
As Coach Angela Whitehouse said, “the smiles on their faces at the end of the their respective races were a thing of beauty!” Many thank to Mrs. Whitehouse and Andrew Aukema for their coaching and encouragement and we will be cheering Max on at Provincials in two weeks!
