Students in Mrs. Glasgow’s and Mrs. Sontag’s Grade One class have been working on a Social Studies unit about the symbols of Canada. One of the many symbols they learned about was the R.C.M.P. and they recognized that members of the R.C.M.P. are servant workers who help people and keep them safe. They also learned about The Peace Tower in Ottawa, and that God built us all to be peacekeepers where we live, work, and play.

To finish the unit, we invited Cst. Mikkelsen from the R.C.M.P. in to share how he works to keep peace in our city, and each student made a box decorated with symbols of peace and a message about how we can be peacemakers at school. We invited Cst. Mikkelsen to help us build our own peace tower with those boxes. It also happened to be lumberjack day that day, so we were showing off some great Canadian spirit with all of our plaid and moustaches!

Thank you very much to Cst. Mikkelsen for sharing your time and knowledge with us, we enjoyed having you here.
