We are pleased to announce two Tech Talks coming up in the new year. Navigating the use of technology and social media is, arguably, one of the most difficult aspects of family life today. To help educate and equip students, staff, and parents in our community around this topic, we have organized student and parent presentations by guest speakers in January and February.

On January 9th and 10th, we have partnered with Immaculate Conception Elementary to bring The White Hatter to Prince George to speak on Internet Safety and Digital Literacy. We will host the following presentations:

  • Parent Presentation – Wednesday, January 9th at 7pm
  • Student Presentations (Grades 4/5, 6/7, and 8-12) – Thursday, January 10th

Secondly, Pastor Andrew (Christian Reformed Church) has agreed to lead a discussion of some of the principles in Andy Crouch’s book, The TechWise Family: Everyday Steps for Putting Technology in its Proper Place, with staff and parents on Thursday, Feb 28th at 7pm. Crouch’s book takes the discussion beyond the “dos and don’ts” about technology and social media to address deeper questions of: “Who do we want to be as a family?” and “How does our use of a particular technology move us closer or farther away from that goal?”. At this event, we will give away free copies of Crouch’s book to anyone who commits to reading it with a goal to apply some of its principles in their own families. In fact, interested staff and parents can come by Mr. Nelson’s office this week for a copy if they would like to tackle it over the Christmas break.
